Why Relationship Matters: Resiliency, Emotional Health, and Healing Trauma
Relationship is fundamental to emotional health and well-being, yet; it is one of the most overlooked aspects when it comes to healing. Societal changes including increased peer orientation and access to attachment-based technology, is creating challenges in home and school settings, making connecting to adults and teachers much less automatic. A paradigm shift is needed, and a cultural shift is underway which places relationships as the key to developing emotional maturity, becoming resilient, and healing trauma.
Constructs like emotional intelligence, emotional self-regulation, emotional well-being are talked about like never before. Emotion, long dismissed as a nuisance factor, is now confirmed to be at the core of development and well-being. What are the implications for raising children? How can we ensure healthy hearts and how is this connected to raising confident kids? How do we teach our children the language of the heart? Should we be discouraging negative emotions’ and encouraging our children to calm down? The goal will be to bring clarity to the plethora of confusing information bombarding parents and educators today.
The answers to health and well-being are right under our noses starting with relationship and ending with play. What does play offer a child’s emotional world? How do the primal emotions come to the surface in play? We will end our time together in play, and demonstrate why and how play and emotion must go together.
