Kimochis® Orientation and Training – Main Session
Four 2-hour sessions to introduce you to the Kimochis® tools to support families in exploring and managing their feelings. This training will be valuable for frontline workers as they engage families to support children through those big feelings. The training is free to provincially-funded Home Visitation Spoke programs & Family Resource Network (FRN) Spoke programs under a provincial grant.
What is Kimochis?
Kimochis is a noun meaning ‘feeling’, ‘mind’, ‘heart’, in Japanese. Research has shown that social-emotional learning (SEL) programs that focus on developing five core Social-Emotional Competencies (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making) provide positive outcomes for children (Collaborative for Academic and Social-Emotional Learning, CASEL, 2003; Blum, 2005).
Bonus Character Sessions
To dive further into each of the 5 characters, consider attending the Bonus Character sessions, where we explore the character, it’s teachings and activities! This offering came out of feedback from the main session that the characters are reviewed very quickly and people were looking for the opportunity to explore them further.
Kimochis Materials
- Eligible Provincially funded Home Visitation Spoke or Family Resource Network (FRN) Spoke programs who participate will receive a full Kimochis Early Childhood Tool Kit (subject to availability) for agency team members to use and a set of 5 character books.
