Topic:
School avoidance is an extremely difficult experience that is increasingly impacting children, teenagers, their families, and school staff members, particularly since COVID-19. During this Touchpoints we will examine the scope of school avoidance, review what the research tells us about this topic, and discuss the many aspects of its management and/or treatment, with a focus on caregivers’ important roles in successfully helping students return to school and/or complete their coursework.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Erin Pougnet is a registered psychologist who completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta and her graduate degrees at Concordia University in Montreal. She has experience working as a psychologist within various Alberta Health Services clinics, with particular expertise in assessing and diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other neurodevelopmental disorders, as well treating children and adolescents with moderate-to-severe mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, emotional dysregulation, and school refusal.
About the Touchpoint Series:
Touchpoints are a way of connecting about topics related to the philosophy, practice and administration of Early Childhood Development and Home Visitation Spokes.
Touchpoints usually focuses on a specific topic and will have formats that encourage strong engagement from attendees in the form of questions, sharing and/or activities.
Some have a primary speaker/presenter, while others rely on our peers throughout the province to share a variety of resources, ideas and approaches.
Who should attend:
Individuals and teams who are part of Family Resource Network (FRN) Early Childhood or Home Visitation Spokes.
We suggest attending any of the series you feel will meet your team’s needs and include any team members who would benefit or be able to contribute to the conversation.
