Alberta Home Visitation Network Association

is offering a

Virtual Book Club (VBC)

Developmental Parenting Part 1 – Home Visitation/Supporting Parent Child Interaction

This 7-week, one hour weekly virtual book club will be offered via Zoom.

Developmental Parenting – A Guide for Early Childhood Practitioners

What is Developmental Parenting? Join AHVNA’s Virtual Book Club to find out what all the excitement is about. What do parents do to support their child’s development? How does a Practioner facilitate positive parent-child interactions and why is this important? Could this be used in other settings, like groups?

Find out what the ABC’s of facilitated developmental parenting look like and why. Together we will read and reflect on each chapter of Developmental Parenting– A Guide for Early Childhood Practitioners, by Lori Roggman, Lisa Boyce and Mark Innocenti.

Developmental Parenting outlines the work done between PICCOLO observations and does not need to be used in conjunction with PICCOLO. In other words, it lays out a method for day to day work with families, including how to plan activities, in a way that facilitates parents in developing skills to support their child when they move on from your home visitation program. Parent Child Interaction principles, child development focus, planning and engagement strategies can be applied more broadly to work with families in all settings.

You do NOT need to take PICCOLO training to use this book or to attend the book club.

Pre-requisite: NONE

This book club covers chapters 1-7, 12 and 13 of the Developmental Parenting book, which focuses on the work directly done with families and touches on the support of this work.

Who should attend:

Any AHVNA member with an interest in exploring the practice of home visitation or working with families to promote child development and how to apply theory to actual home visits, supervision, outcomes and/or program evaluation.

What to expect from AHVNA’s Virtual Book Club:

The AHVNA Virtual Book Club engages in reflection, discussion and mutual learning to develop and inform our practice.  Discussions take place in a safe, respectful environment intended to stretch our thinking and enrich our practice.

After each discussion, you will receive an email with a few questions intended to guide, but by no means limit, our reading and exploration of the next section.
